The Band of Oz was formed in 1967 as a part-time band playing fraternity parties and high school proms all over the South. In 1977 the band went on the road full time. Since that time the band has made an exceptional name for itself throughout the Southeast by playing the top clubs and corporate parties, and getting excellent reviews along the way. For several years the group has been a guest on most of the major beach concerts in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia.
The Band of Oz is one of the most successful groups in the Southeast, and continues to get the very best reviews from the top people in the entertainment business. The band now features a full horn section to total a dynamic eight-member group. They still perform well over two hundred shows per year for corporate events, festivals, concerts, wedding receptions, and many other public and private events.
For decades The Embers have been making music by playing a mix of rhythm and blues and heart and soul.
Rhythm and Blues became the foundation and essence of soul music and the Motown sound, but in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and Alabama, the name that applies is “Beach Music.” Some believe that Beach Music is simply lyrics that are easy to sing with simple melodies and pretty harmonies that accompany them. Bobby Tomlinson, drummer and leader of the band, believes that Beach Music is music with a memory.
To say “The Embers play Beach Music” is an understatement. After eighteen albums and numerous single releases, The Embers are one of the most popular and active groups in the country. The Embers boast an average of two hundred fifty dates per year all ranging from Toronto to Florida and westward to California, Hawaii and most recently South Korea. Over the years they’ve played for presidents and princes, students and bankers, at the beach and in the city, on record and in concert, for our armed forces and audiences all around the world.
The third week of September, 1978, was marked the beginning of an era, the formation of The Fantastic Shakers, known as the “South’s Finest Show Band.” Since the inception of the band, the have performed over 6,000 engagements including over 400 wedding receptions, 700 conventions, and clubs too numerous to mention. They have performed from New York to Florida and all throughout the Southeast. South Carolina’s Grand Strand has become the band’s summer home and their hit single “Myrtle Beach Days” catapulted The Shakers to the top of the Carolinas musical groups.
This combination of experience and longevity has allowed The Fantastic Shakers to possess a level of versatility few other groups can match. With five lead vocalists and up to three horns, they can perform almost any style of music from up-tempo dance and rock to the smooth easy listening for the more subdued occasions. The music is great but what sets The Fantastic Shakers apart is the personality of the group. From start to finish every performance becomes a party! The fun starts at the first note and doesn’t stop until the last. A performance by The Fantastic Shakers is not just a party, it is an event!

2009 CBMA Award for Favorite New Artist
The Hip Pocket Band is a one of a kind variety band. They play everything from 60′s soul and 80′s Dance Music to today’s Hot New Country and Party Rock & Roll. If Carolina Beach Music is your thing they play the Rock & Soul Classics you are looking for. They have a rich tradition and heritage in the Rock and Southern Soul industry.
Tired of boring performances and lack of variety in song selection, the co-leaders had only one requirement of a song-you had to be able to dance to it. Musicians accustomed to playing strictly beach or country or rock were suddenly playing all three plus others. The depth of the talent became obvious when these musicians adapted with ease to the different styles. The show might start with “The Electric Slide” and end with Hinder’s “Lips Of An Angel” with Big and Rich’s “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” in the middle. This diversity makes the band a hit with fans of all ages and musical preferences. The Pizazz Band is able to entertain a wide range of ages and musical preferences by gearing their extensive play lists to their audiences-heavy on the beach and funk for the private parties, top 40 and rock for the clubs, and a little bit of everything for the many festivals and corporate functions that they do during the year. Costume changes, audience participation, and crazy antics keep audiences on their toes.
North Tower has been on of the south’s great party bands for over 30 years, providing the best in oldies, beach, Top 40 and funk. Sizzling brass, super vocals and a wide-ranging repertoire all contribute to making your party a night to remember!
With the classic style of Ray Charles, the dynamics of Marvin Gaye and Rod Stewart, the Soul of James Brown, the vocal prowess of Steve Perry of Journey, combined with the passion of Sam Cook and Michael McDonald, you have “The Soul Man of Beach Music”, Craig Woolard.

Woolard has taken on a new persona in what is claimed to be the South’s number one Beach Music, R&B, Top 40, Motown, 70’s & 80’s, and Rock & Roll Party Band….Craig Woolard is The Real Thing!
The Craig Woolard Band wows their audience with one of the most diverse repertoires and original crowd participation shows in the industry. It is no wonder they have become one of the most highly recommended and sought after bands for weddings, private and corporate events, concerts, and festivals in the southeastern United States.
Mark Twain once said, “A Southerner talks music.” If this is true, Coastline speaks in volumes. An eclectic blend of soul, blues, and rock has produced the sound known as Coastline. From hard driving Carolina back beats, to Georgia southern rock, from Cajun inspired grooves, to Texas and Delta blues; Coastline truly defines the sound of historical Southern music. With finesse, the pure forms of southern music are transformed into a modern contemporary art form.
The inimitable vocals and humorous antics of lead singer Jim Quick are captivating and a perfect hybrid of every essence of soul. He has won more accolades than any other entertainer at the Carolina Music Awards. Guitarist, Casey Meyer is the blues boy in the band. Although the youngest member of Coastline in regard to age, Casey slides on his guitar with the confidence and grace of his many adored older mentors. He is the essence of Coastline’s roots and earmark. His partner in crime, Albert Rogers on bass, comes to Coastline via The Band and Grayson Hugh not to mention Albert’s a great singer in his own right. The multi-talented Glen Tippett rounds out this perfect culmination of musicians. This virtuoso is a highly trained saxophonist and keyboardist and completes this unique sound of the south. Coastline is one of the most sought after acts on the road today and has rapidly become a staple in American music.
To hear it, you might think you just stepped into Motown. To breathe it, you smell a tropical breeze. To feel it, you let the rhythm grasp your body and whirl it into motion. To see it, is like an extravaganza of light and energy. But to experience it, you must say it….“I want THE TAMS!!”
The Tams were formed in Atlanta, GA in 1962. Its members were Joseph Pope and Charles Pope (founders), Horace Key, Floyd Ashton, and Robert Lee Smith. In the beginning, they sang and danced as a way of having fun and to escape their circumstances, hoping to make at least a little money. The group began performing in local nightspots for $1.25 each. These small wages only allowed for them to purchase matching Tam O’Shanter hats to wear while on stage. From this trademark, the legendary Tams name was born. The current members include Charles Pope, his son Li’l Redd, Robert Arnold, Reginald Preston and Greg Gallashaw. Despite the unfortunate passing of “The Legendary Joe Pope”, The Tams have continued to be as popular as ever. Forty-two years after the group’s formation, Charles and Li’l Redd continue to lead The Tams toward success. Fans clamor to see Charles Pope – Living Legend, and Li’l Redd – Fastest Feet in the South! And with a new generation of “Little Tams” coming along, Charles puts it best when he says, “The Tams will NEVER die!!”
“The Drifters were the all time greatest Atlantic recording group,” said Ahmet Ertegun, founder of the Atlantic Recording Company and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1988 the Rockhall inducted the seven significant contributors to The Drifters’ legacy – originals Clyde McPhatter, Bill Pinkney, and Gerhardt Thrasher, along with subsequent members Ben E. King, Charlie Thomas, Rudy Lewis, and Johnny Moore. These are the faces you have come to know over the years – and they continue the great Bill Pinkney Legacy with pride and respect. North Carolina native, Emily Minor is the fresh new face of country music. Emily has always had the passion for country music but recently got her start singing lead vocals for the Johnny Dollar Band. Starting out in Greenville, NC at local college bars is where Emily developed her love for the stage, live music, and bright lights. “Singing to me is more like a need to live. It’s not a hobby, it’s a way of life. It’s the only way of life for me,” she says.
In August of 2008, in Charleston, NC is where Emily faced critical American Idol judges, Simon, Paula, and Randy. She made it all the way to the top 50 in Hollywood, CA before saying good-bye to the show. But that didn’t stop Emily’s determination of pursuing her dreams. “Being rejected and failing is what living is all about. It’s part of the process. Some are going to love you, and some are going to hate you… And it makes for writing one hell of a song,” she says of her past experiences.
Emily is currently writing her own songs, recording, and making local appearances in the Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, and Wilmington area. Emily also visits Nashville frequently and if you’re lucky, you may get the chance to see her singing in the local bars.
